Latest restrictions major blow to aviation, travel and tourism industries

Commenting on the announcement that pre-departure tests will be introduced from Tuesday 7 December, Henry Smith MP, Chair of the APPG for the Future of Aviation said:

“The introduction of further restrictions on our aviation, travel and tourism sectors are a major blow that will hit our economy, jobs and place these vital industries into peril just as they were looking to recover.

“That these restrictions have come with no financial or employment support is totally unacceptable and the Government must announce a full package of measures in the coming days, including controlling the cost of testing.

“Above all they need to justify why these restrictions are needed and what the roadmap is for their removal is as soon as possible.

“It is essential that the Government protect our aviation, travel and tourism industries against the latest raft of measures and a failure to do so will be utterly devastating to our economy, people, jobs and the towns and cities that depend on aviation.”
